Approximately 1,500 cherry trees have been planted in the Matsugamine area, which has been selected as one of the 100 Scenic Spots of Niigata. The landscape is particularly striking in spring, when the delicate pink blossoms contrast beautifully with the lingering snow on the mountains—an ephemeral scene unique to this snow-rich region.
When the cherry trees are in full bloom, the reflection of Mt. Myoko—with its distinctive “rearing horse” silhouette—mirrored in the still waters of Matsugamine Pond creates a view reminiscent of a painting.
This serene and lesser-known location has quietly gained a reputation among photography enthusiasts from within and outside the prefecture.
