Yahikoyama Ropeway

弥彦山ロープウェイ

Embark on a scenic 1-kilometer aerial journey with the enormous Echigo Plain spreading out below.

The Yahikoyama Ropeway connects the base and summit of Mt. Yahiko on a 5-minute aerial journey with views of the Echigo Plain below. It departs from the village of Yahiko, known for Yahiko Shrine, one of Niigata’s most revered spiritual hubs; and as the site of many hot springs. It’s also a fantastic place to see cherry blossoms in spring and colorful foliage in autumn.

After visiting the shrine, you can walk or take a free shuttle bus to the ropeway base station. The gentle sloped path from the shrine grounds to the station bristles with rich greenery, granting a peaceful forest bathing experience. After arriving at the summit station, walk 15 minutes to Goshinbyo Shrine, which is believed to bring blessings in marriage. Take a moment to relish the invigorating mountain air and spiritual atmosphere of the 634-meter-high mountain. Also near the summit station is Yahiko Summit Park, which contains a panoramic restaurant and a 100-meter-tall revolving lookout lift called the Panorama Tower, both presenting breathtaking panoramas of the Echigo Plain, Sea of Japan, and Sado Island.
*The Panorama Tower is closed in winter.
