River Observatory

川の展望台

The River Observatory presents breathtaking panoramas over the Naeba-Sanroku Geopark, which is renowned for its river terraces sculpted over a 400,000-year period, offering a spectacle that mirrors the passing seasons.

The Naeba-Sanroku Geopark covers an approximately 442 km² stretch across the northwest of Mt. Naeba, encompassing Tsunan Town in Niigata Prefecture and Sakae Village in Nagano Prefecture. It boasts one of Japan's most remarkable staircase-like geological formations, which were shaped over a 400,000-year period and remain as an enduring testament to the profound influence of global climate shifts and the Nakatsu River's powerful flow.

Visitors can look out over the many natural wonders of the geopark from the River Observatory, which offers a sweeping panorama from an approximately 450-meter altitude. Gaze upon the meandering Shinano River below, watch the Nakatsu River converge, and admire the river terraces stretching into the distance. Perched on the cliffside, you'll experience a thrill akin to soaring with the birds as you stand on the deck!
