Eguchi Dango Honten

Discover the art of Japanese confectionery at Eguchi Dango Honten, renowned for its delectable "sasa dango" (mugwort dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves). Housed in a lovingly restored old private residence, this establishment offers more than just sweets—it's a delightful journey back in time.

This well-established dumpling shop can be found in Miyamoto-machi, nestled within the tranquil countryside of Nagaoka City in Niigata Prefecture. Surrounded by picturesque rural scenery and rivers, it offers a delightful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
The store specializes in crafting and selling an array of mochi cakes, with one of its standout creations being the "sasa dango", a beloved traditional Japanese confection originating from Niigata. These delectable treats are expertly made by encasing mugwort "mochi" rice cakes filled with red bean paste in bamboo leaves and gently steamed to perfection.
Spanning across an extensive area of around 5,000 square meters, the establishment includes a charming shop that has been thoughtfully renovated from an old private residence. Here, you'll have the opportunity to purchase your favorite sweets on the ground floor of the main building. Additionally, you can witness an engaging demonstration of the intricate art of sasa-dango making.
For those seeking a more leisurely experience, the second floor hosts a delightful sweet cafe. Here, you can savor a wide assortment of scrumptious treats while basking in the nostalgic beauty of the surrounding countryside.
