Lake Hyoko Iris Garden
瓢湖あやめ園While most famous for migrating swans in winter, Lake Hyoko comes to life in early summer with 300,000 colorful irises blooming along its shores.
Lake Hyoko is a registered Ramsar Wetland and a migratory site for swans. It also has a 1.1 hectare iris garden on its south bank, where around 300,000 irises of 170 varieties bloom from early to late June. To celebrate, the Hyoko Iris Festival sees the walking paths decorated with “bonbori” lanterns made from fabric and paper. Enjoy a stroll through the garden to admire the countless dainty purple, white, and yellow iris flowers.
