Tarai-Bune Tub Boat Sunset & Night Cruise

ナイト たらい舟

Don’t miss this limited-time opportunity to ride on one of Sado Island’s famous "tarai-bune" tub boats at night amongst the gentle glow of bamboo lanterns floating on the sea.

The ""hangiri,"" or ""tarai-bune,"" have long played a vital role in the daily lives of locals on the Ogi Peninsula, which is located on the southern tip of Sado Island. These unique boats were originally used as fishing equipment, allowing one to better navigate the narrow, rocky coastline teeming with reefs. On this tour, you'll first bask in the breathtaking sunset over the sea of Sado, before hopping on a tarai-bune and enjoying a night cruise. Take in the starlit sky and marine life as the boat leisurely glides between the dynamic rocks illuminated by bamboo lanterns. With a stroke of luck, you might even catch a glimpse of noctiluca, which shimmer like the aurora borealis against the darkened sea.
