Arakawakyo Momiji Line and Takanosu Suspension Bridge

荒川峡もみじライン・鷹の巣吊り橋

A popular drive for viewing autumn leaves

The Arakawakyo Momiji Line is a popular spot for autumn foliage watchers, the road covering about 20km from Sekikawa Village to Oguni Town in Yamagata Prefecture. In particular, the area around Takanosu Suspension Bridge, designated as a top 100 sight in Niigata Prefecture, is a must-see spot in which a combination of the clear waters of the Arakawa River, the mountain forest foliage and the sight of the quaint old swingbridge can be enjoyed all at once. The bridge area also has the Takanosu promenade, known as the northernmost limit of Japanese cypress forest, and the Takanosu observatory, which offers breathtaking views of the Arakawakyo gorge under the suspension bridge.
