Sengando Suspension Bridge

千眼堂吊り橋

Bright red swingbridge chosen as one of the top 50 Niigata bridges

Located on the slopes of Mt. Kugami, once home of the famous hermit monk Ryokan, this red swingbridge with the length of 124m across connects the Mt. Asahi Observatory and the Gogo-an, Ryokan's hermitage. The bridge's name is taken from the valley it crosses, Sengando Valley. Crossing 35m above the valley floor, it is a prime spot for viewing the new green of spring, autumn foliage, and winter snow. Selected as one of the Top 50 Bridges of Niigata in 1993.
