Oyu Onsen (Yunotani Hot Spring Area)

大湯温泉

Quiet and relaxed - sample the rustic charms of this hot spring area

Oyu Onsen forms a part of the Yunotani Hot Spring area in Uonuma City. It is a hot spring area filled with rustic charms, where visitors can spend a quiet and relaxing time. With its weakly alkaline spring water, this place has been consistently popular with everyone who enters, thanks to its gentle and soothing waters.
Each of the four seasons in Oyu has its own attractions, starting with the dog-tooth violets that emerge in the spring and the cherry blossoms that bloom over the remaining snow. In the autumn the mountains are draped in a golden and red blanket of autumn leaves, and in the winter you can see you own breath in the icy temperatures.
Winter is also the time for winter sports and the Oyu Onsen skiing ground is just a three-to-five-minute walk from the hot spring area, and after a day on the slopes you can return to soak your aching limbs. Before bed how about taking a walk around the area to see the works of the famous sculptor Uncho Ishikawa, known as the “Michelangelo of Japan”?
