Niigata Masterpiece Sushi: "Kiwami"

In 2007, a Niigata sushi chef invented a new menu called Kiwami.
Kiwami is a premium sushi collection that features 10 pieces of sushi made of sea urchin, fatty tuna, salmon roe, and local, seasonal fish prepared by an experienced sushi master.  It includes the most delicious local fish of the day chosen by a sushi artisan with expert judgment.  You can not truly experience Niigata until you have tried it.

Discover the way of life for a Sengoku Era warlord!

Capitalizing on the current popularity of the Sengoku Era, this expo shows a completely new conceptualization of the lives of Sengoku warlords who lived during the same period as Kanetsugu Naoe, a local heroic warlord from the current Minamiuonuma City in Niigata, through a variety of mediums such as video and manga.

It includes a special products shop where you can buy everything from Minamiuonuma specialty products, including koshihikari rice and sake, to Sengoku Era goods.

See the brave clashing of bulls that weight over a ton!
Yamakoshi is the only place on Honshu where you can see this traditional event.
Unlike Western bullfighting, no bulls are killed in Japanese bullfighting.  Instead of facing humans, the bulls fight each other until one gets too tired to continue.

Public viewing of the government-designated significant intangible folk cultural asset, Ayakomai dance

“Ayakomai,” a significant intangible folk cultural asset, is being performed at its traditional location.


Designated as a significant intangible folk cultural asset by the national government in 1976, the Ayakomai dance is performed publicly every year on the second Sunday in September at the square in front of the Ayakomai museum.

Food stalls, festival music, folk songs, and the valiant carrying of mikoshi (portable shrines) bring enthusiasm to new heights!!

A fireworks show will be held from 7:30p.m. to 9:00p.m. (as planned) on the 2nd night of the festival, too.
