Hakkaisan Firewalking Festival

Hakkaisan Shrine has long been worshiped by people as a sacred place dedicated to the mountain gods. After the timber piled up in front of the altar has been burnt down, devotees walk barefoot over a bed of hot embers to pray for the health and prosperity of their family.  Participation is open to the public.


Date/Times:          Thursday, October 20th, 2011

                                From 10:00 Kimono-clad children’s procession
                                From 12:00 Ceremony begins (make prayers)
                                From 13:00 Firewalking begins

Location:               Hakkaisanson Shrine sacred ceremonial ground, 
                                4161 Osaki, Minamiuonuma City
