Niigata Discovery Tour2 Sado & Joetsu course (Oct 3-4)report 14

I am very lucky to be among 20 students who had an precious opportunity to participate the Niigata Discovery Tour organized by the International Tourism Office of Niigata Prefecture. For many students, Sado is still a strange name because there are not many commercials or posters introducing about it. But for me, I have heard about Sado from some of my Japanese friends and I wanted to go there a lot.

We started the tour on a sunny day from Urasa station to Port of NIIGATA. From here, we got on to a big ferry heading to Sado island. The view from the ferry was fantastic. No words can describe the beauty of the nature when you stand on the ferry and look at the blue of sky, of the sea and listen to the sound of seagulls and waves.

After 2 hours enjoying the scenes, we arrived at Ryotsu Port and had lunch in the fishermen’s restaurant. Here we had chance to eat sashimi and grilled fish. After that, we went to Toki no Mori Park to see the symbol of Sado island. This bird is already extinct but human try to get it back with the nature. We were asked to watch them lovingly and quietly so that we will not make them panic. The next destination is my favorite spot during the trip, Sensaku Bay. When I saw this scene at first, I felt like someone took all of my breath. The scenes was so breath taking that people are lost in to it. All we wanted to do at that time was just standing there silently to listen to the waves flapping to the cliff. This place is perfect for who wants to find the peace in mind.

After taking a lot of pictures, we headed to Kitazawa Plant and Sado Gold Mine. We could see a mountain which was broken into 2 pieces. And the tour guide told us that it was done manually by human being. You can never know the limit of human strength. In the Sado Gold Mine, we could see a lot of dummies used to emulate the process of gold mining. It was so real that we thought we were in a real gold mining where people were working.
After a long day travel with funny, kind tour guides, we went to an traditional Japanese hotel. It was the first time I had been in an onsen hotel like that. And it was out of my expectation. After having a huge dinner with delicious seafood, we could relax in onsen and enjoy sleeping in a traditional room.

More than that, we also have chance to try the boat riding (Tarai-Bune riding) which is only available in Sado. It was a very interesting experience which you could try to move the boat by yourself. If you don’t do it properly, the boat will go around in a circle.

For me, this trip was so wonderful and memorable. I really appreciate Niigata Prefecture for giving us the chance to join this amazing trip. Sado is definitely a very interesting destination that tourists should go visit.
