The Tokamachi Kimono Festival is held every year in spring on May 3 and is a huge, traditional event for this city of textiles. This is also the day of Tokamachi’s coming-of-age ceremony. The center of the city is closed off to automobiles as men and women of all ages don their colorful kimonos and the streets fill to the brim.

When: May 3, 2017 (Wed.), 11AM-3PM
Where: Around Ekidoori, Tokamachi-shi
Event details:
Kimono parade
Local residents and new adults put on their finest clothing.
When: 12:30PM-1:00PM (tentative)
*If it rains, the event will be canceled.
Wearing kimonos and walking through the city of kimonos
To those who want to put on a kimono and participate, there are rentals and help for changing into a kimono available
If bringing your own, 3,000yen (changing help, lunch included)
If renting, 5,000yen (kimono rental, changing help, lunch included)
*Register with the Tokamachi Tourism Association by phone at 025-757-3345.

1 min. on foot from Tokamachi Station on the JR Iiyama Line and the Hokuetsu Express’s Hokuhoku Line.
30 min. by car from the Echigo-Kawaguchi interchange or the Muikamachi interchange on the Kan-etsu Expressway.
